| Love Letter to the Earth artists: Weronika Gęsicka Karolina Grzywnowicz Diana Lelonekcurator: Katarzyna Sagatowska Many of us will remember the year 2020 as one of isolation, distance, and fear. A year we confronted the necessity of change — from shifts in the private sphere, to social and political changes — and of reflection on our natural environment and the impending climate crisis. It has also been year in which we have sought shelter and comfort. For many people, nature presented itself as this very place. We came to appreciate the value of a ray of sun falling across our faces, of a walk in the woods, of a leaf, or of a bird sitting on a branch. This exhibition is, above all, a confession of love. Love for nature, love for Planet Earth. A love full of anxiety, concern, and doubt. It’s a story of the complex relationship between humans and nature, in which nature is now reclaiming its voice. The project is also an experiment. A story of love for nature presented in a virtual context might appear risky at first glance — but in our current situation of lockdown, which is the case for cultural institutions as well, it also presents a certain opportunity. A chance to exit the symbolic “white cube.” An occasion to reflect on the place of art in our world today, as well as the role of the artist. Inviting only women artists to participate in the exhibition has also provided an opportunity to express the need for restoring the important, independent voices of women creators to the world of art. Sound fills out the virtual environment of the exhibition. Some of the birdsongs you will hear are from species that are considered extinct. These we treat like a final call — one we would never want to leave unanswered. Exhibition Love Letter To The Earth is supported by Institute of Adam Mickiewicz. Exhibition is organized by Tbilisi Online Biennale in partnership with Jednostka Gallery.
